Hp Pavilion X3: Performance

This is not a fast machine. Its built around an Intel Celeron N2820 that uses the same architecture as Intels Bay Trail Atom chips. In specs terms that makes for two cores without Hyper-Threading, a clock that runs at a modest minimum of 2.13GHz, and just 1MB of L2 cache a poor specification that languishes behind new, quad-core Atoms.

The Celeron is also saddled with Intels Ivy Bridge-based HD Graphics core. This is markedly better than the Sandy Bridge generation graphics that preceded it but is still fairly lowly and not a patch on the big upgrade that came with the latest Haswell chips. The accompanying 4GB of RAM will be enough to get you by but is the bare minimum we expect to see these days even in budget systems.

All this adds up to the HPs PC Mark 7 score of 1,463 being the worst weve seen for some time a decent distance behind the Lenovo and Asus machines and its Geekbench result of 1,253 was even further back. This is no work system, and its no gaming machine either: its 3D Mark Ice Storm score of 12,979 points is a long way behind the Lenovos 21,438. That said, the HPs Ice Storm result needs to be quantified, as the Pavilions graphics result of 16,862 isnt as far behind the Lenovo, which scored 21,657 in this portion of the test its the physics area where the HP fell behind, with its 7,187 points almost three times lower than the Yoga.

Test The Battery Before Windows Starts

After the battery charges and discharges, recharge it back to a full charge to perform a battery test before Windows starts.

Get Rid Of Unwanted Peripheral Devices

Apart from network connections, you can also monitor the peripheral devices that are connected to your system. For instance, if your system is connected to several devices at the same time, then it can cause laptop battery failure. In this case, you can try to disconnect the USB drive, wireless mouse, CD/DVD, Bluetooth speakers, or any other connected device.

Just go to your system’s settings to monitor this or click on the device icon on the taskbar. Right-click it to safely remove the connected devices and just disconnected all the unwanted peripheral devices from it.

Very Short Battery Life On New Computer

When I purchased my laptop the battery life was about 3 hours. Now the battery runs downs to empty within an hour. It is on battery saver and low screen light. How do I check what could be drawing the battery down so quickly or if it is a battery issue.

Have you tried to calibrate the battery as suggested in my previous post?

Go to and follow the steps listed under “Manually Calibrating the battery”.

If the issue persists, then try the steps below:

• Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose Show hidden devices.
• Then from the device manager list, check the entries under Battery Right-click and choose uninstall on all the entries.
• Once all the entries are removed from battery, restart your PC.

The PC will reinstall the drivers automatically once you restart the PC. Then try charging the laptop.

Monitor The Screen Brightness

You might already know that the system’s display is one of the major components that feed on its battery. Hp Pavilion 14t Design

The silver-white aluminum chassis is lightweight, has a premium feel, and a low profile that slips easily into a bag or backpack. Its listed at 3.4 pounds but feels lighter and, although it has a 14-inch display, the Pavilion looks and feels quite compact.

Upon opening the lid, youre met by the slightly right-of-center touchpad that has a nice chrome razor edge accent. Above the touchpad is the Chiclet keyboard that provides excellent key spacing for even larger hands like mine. Next, your eyes find the HP logo at the base of the slim bezels surrounding the display. Near the top of the panel sits the HD webcam. It’s a very well laid out, simple, tight design.

Measuring just 12.8 x 8.5 x 0.7 inches, the Pavilion 14t is the lightest and smallest among its mainstream competitors. The Gateway 14-inch Ultra Slim Notebook comes in at 3.5 pounds and measures 13.1 x 8.9 x 0.8, followed by the Acer Aspire 5 at 3.7 pounds, 14.3 x 9.9 x 0.7 inches and the Asus VivoBook S15, which comes in at 4 pounds, 14.1 x 9.2 x 0.6 inches.

Software And Warranty On The Hp Pavilion Plus

There is way too much preloaded software on the HP Pavilion Plus 14. First, there are a bunch of bookmarks for Booking.com, McAfee, and LastPass, which arent pre-installed software but appear in the start menu nonetheless. Theres a promotional app for Dropbox, and HPs Omen Gaming Tool software is, for some reason, pre-installed on a non-gaming productivity machine. Theres also the Xbox and Xbox Game Bar software pre-installed from Windows. And, of course, the aforementioned B& O Audio Control software allows you to tweak the sound from your speakers.

Other than that, the system has a bunch of HP apps like Duet Display to extend your screen to another monitor, QuickDrop to transfer files across devices and mobile phones, and HP Documentation to look up guides and licenses. Theres also HP Support Assistant and HP Privacy Settings, all with varying levels of utility overlap.

HP Command Center also presents system information, lets you manually adjust cooling and performance, and prioritizes the network traffic for specific programs. Other software includes HP audio switch, HP Enhanced Lighting, HP Palette, HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, HP System Event Utility, and HP Smart.

Its a lot to keep track of, and a few of these apps overlap. There shouldnt be so much preloaded software here. At the very least, much of it should be packaged together as Lenovo does with Vantage.

The HP Pavilion Plus 14 has a 1-year standard warranty. But you could pay extra for extended coverage.

Hp Pavilion 14t Display

The Pavilion 14ts 14-inch, 1920 x 1080 anti-glare display is lovely, with warm saturated colors and solid brightness.

When I watched The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, Ahsoka Tanos orange skin was rendered nicely. When her white lightsabers struck against Mandos armor, the white and blue sparks were sharp and looked superb.

I had a blast beating up baddies on the HP Pavilion 14t. When I played Batman: Arkham Origins, the colors were lively, but I loved how the display handled all the shadows in the opening movie trailer, serving up contrasting dark greys with the occasional orange-red street lights. This panel is fun to play on as it renders nicely considering the specs of the machine.

We measured the color reproduction of the Pavilion 14t and it scored 69.7% of the PCI-P3 color gamut, outdoing the other units in its class. The Gateway , Aspire 5 and the VivoBook S15 fell below the mainstream laptop average of 63.9%.

The Pavilion 14t display averages 362 nits of brightness, which is brighter than the 297-nit average. The Gateway and Aspire .and the VivoBook were all dimmer.

Hp Pavilion X2 Storage & Connectivity

How To Create A Battery Report

Battery Report is not a new feature, but it remains under-the-radar because theres no way to access it through Windows settings menus. You can only create a Battery Report through the Command Prompt. Heres how to do it:

• Perform a Windows Search for CMD or Command Prompt. Youll see Command Prompt appear and the search results. Open it. Alternatively, you can find Command Prompt listed under Windows System in the Windows Start menu.
• Once open, youll see a command line starting with C: and ending with the name of your user account. A blinking cursor will appear at the end of this command line. Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter on your keyboard.
• If successful, the Command Prompt will tell you a battery life report was saved to your user folder.
• Navigate to the folder listed in the Command Prompt. This will be your default user folder, which is C:Users< yourusername>
