Ego Start Up & Controls
Lets start where it all begins: the controls. In short, the controls are excellent. The build quality is sturdy, and so when you handle the controls you feel connected to the mower no flimsy connections, loose bolts, etc. This is immediately reassuring.
The handlebar has three angled settings low, medium, and high and the handle itself telescopes out to its full position, which is locked into place with a simple clamp. This comes in handy later when you need to fold and store the mower a storage feature and process that ranked #1 in our head-to-head review process.
In terms of usability, the use is intuitive, with large and clearly labeled buttons. As to the so-called Touch Drive self-propelled feature, it has a throttle on the handle that is easy to dial up and back through the variable speeds of 0.9 3.1 mph. Notably, and importantly, the self-propel does work when you are not actually cutting grass. As an aside, I dont understand mowers for whom this doesnt work. I often need to move the mower from one side of the lawn to the other, without mowing. Anyway this feature is appreciated, and not included on all mowers.
Finally, adjusting the height is easy: Its just one easy-to-use lever that takes you through 7 different height positions. Its just that easy.
Is An Electric Lawn Mower Worth It

Before making any type of purchase, it is crucial that you consider a few things and buying a cordless self-propelled mower is no different.
The size of the lawn will play a very important role in making a decision on whether to go for a cordless self-propelled mower. Whilst these are nifty little machines, their shorter battery span means that they wont be suitable for very large lawns, unless, of course, you dont mind waiting for the battery to charge and going back to the job later. Or of course you may have a spare battery at hand to use. A normal battery-operated lawn mower will give you between 30-60 minutes of juice per charge. If you have a small or medium-sized lawn, this will be ideal. Also higher end models, with battery combinations of 56v 7.5Ah for example, are available that will deal quite nicely with larger lawns, but this will come at a price.
How you want the lawn to look is also something else to think about. Some people like to have a striped lawn and in order to achieve this, a rear roller is required. Whilst some cordless self-propelled mowers have this option, not all do so it is worth checking first.
What type of lawn grass you have should be considered since thicker, rougher grass such as Annual Meadow Grass, may require the power that only a petrol mower or very powerful cordless battery mower can offer. This is particularly true if you are not going to keep up with a regular lawn mowing schedule.

How Battery Mowers Work
Several features have enabled the improved capability of battery mowers. First is the lithium-ion battery, which has grown in size and sophistication, with the ability to better manage the heat and electrical strain that it experiences. And that equals better durability and run time. Next, brushless motors have fewer parts and increased reliability, compared to motors equipped with brushes that slowly wear away. This is especially important given that a mower operates in harsh conditions and high temperatures.
Another factor that has enabled the success of these motors is their electronically controlled output. When the mower encounters tall grass, the motor speed increases automatically, also ramping up the blade speed.
