The 20162019 Honda key fob has a switch that releases the physical key. Use the metal and insert it into the center slot of the key fob. Turn it like a key to pop key fob open. The CR2032 battery is held in 4 tabs. There is a slot opening to push the battery out on top. Use a finger nail or small toothpick in the slot to pop the battery out. Reverse the steps to re-assemble and test.

- If your key fob has a screw, remove it with a jeweler’s screwdriver. In case there is a release button, simply slide it.
- Put the fob on a flat surface so nothing falls out as you open it.
- Pry the two halves apart with a flat screwdriver. You can do it with the key, but it could be tougher to accomplish. Avoid separating two halves with a knife. You could damage the delicate insides of the remote.
- Remove the old battery with a flat screwdriver, key or finger and put the new one in.
- Place the two halves of the fob back together until you hear them snap.
- Reinsert the screw if necessary.
- Test the remote.

How To Reassemble The Honda Key Fob If It Falls Apart
If the battery is pried out of the key fob without carefully holding it together, there is a good chance the contents of the key fob–including the external buttons, will fall out. Here is how to reassemble the whole key fob if this happens to you.
Grab your spare key fob to use as a reference of what the reassembled fob should look like.
Line all of the buttons up next to the key fob faceplate just as they would be placed back into the key fob.
Flip the faceplate over and place the buttons back into the correct slots.
Insert the crossbar between the empty spaces of the top two buttons, with the crossbar curvature facing outwards.
Insert the battery back into the motherboard with the positive sign facing out.
Put the motherboard back into the key fob with the rubber film up against the buttons.
Line the back of the key fob up with the front and press it back together. You will hear it snap back into place.
Near your vehicle, press all the buttons to test that everything is working properly.
