Ryobi 40v Hp Brushless 730 Cfm Blower

40V HP Brushless 21 in. Whisper Series Single-Stage Cordless Electric Snow Blower 7.5 Ah Batteries

As battery-powered blowers have increased in power, their noise levels have crept up along with it. Reversing that trend, Ryobis 40V HP Brushless 730 CFM leaf blower crushed it in our Newton force test by hitting 21.7 N. But instead of producing the 8588 decibels most high-performance blowers do, its just 72 decibels in high and 76 decibels in Turbo measuring from our operators ear.

Lets put that in perspective. The SPL scale shows that a drop of just 3 decibels is half the sound pressure level. However, a drop of 10 decibels sounds half as loud. For Ryobi, running in Turbo mode hits your unprotected ear with roughly 8x lower SPL and half the perceived loudness. Its incredibly impressive when youre using it side-by-side with other cordless blowers.

Though its a few decibels louder, the Stihl BGA 200 is another model thats quieter than most.

Worx Wg584 40v Turbine Cordless Leaf Blower Power Share With Brushless Motor

  • Very effective on dry leaves

  • Final setup step is a tad tricky

  • Less effective on damp leaves

  • Lack of precise control airflow

The WORX 40V Turbine Cordless Leaf Blower Power Share with Brushless Motor lets you choose from an airflow capacity of 300 to 470 CFM and from an airflow speed of 60, 69, 80, or 95 MPH. Our tester liked that the unit was lightweight and easy to handle with one hand and fairly quiet for how much power it offers. It cleared the patch of grass from dry leaves in 12.9 seconds, which was the fastest clocked time among all the other models on this list for that specific test. It cleared the patch of grass from damp leaves in a slightly faster 12.7 seconds and the patch of concrete from the dry leaves in a considerably longer 52 seconds.

This unit is made up of three pieces. While we had no issue following the assembly instructions and finished setting the leaf blower up in less than two minutes, we struggled a bit when attaching the final piece. We wish this unit allowed us to have better control over the airflow, since we were unable to roundup the leaves in the box we drew with chalk on concrete. However, we were pleased with its power, as it easily pushed the fishing line weights a 10-foot distance. We were also pleased with its long battery life, and our tester said they did not notice any decline in power while the blower was in use.

Why You Should Trust Us

Weve been testing and evaluating leaf blowers since 2014. In that time, weve consulted with two landscapersKevin Walker of K.G.W. Services in Carlisle, Massachusetts, who conducted some of our testing, and Chad Crosby of West Michigan Lawn Servicesin interviews. Weve also had a long conversation with Dan Pherson, a product manager at Stihl USA, and weve gotten the input of other manufacturers such as Toro and Ego.

Ive been using leaf blowers seasonally for nearly 20 yearslong before I began working on this guide in 2014. I own a 16-acre property in rural New England that is loaded with maples and oaks, so leaf blowing is a crucial part of my winter preparation. Ive also written guides to lawn mowers, string trimmers, and snow blowers, so I have a good understanding of what makes a solid piece of outdoor power equipment.

Flaws But Not Dealbreakers

The biggest downside to the Toro is that the air intake is at the rear, so for all the air thats blasting out the nozzle end, an equal amount is being sucked in through the back. Because of this back-end positioning, the blower can easily pull clothing against the intake cover. In our tests, during normal use with the blower at our side, this wasnt a problem, but when we passed it from side to side or did any other operations that put the blower directly in front of us, a shirt sometimes got sucked against the intake covereasy enough to deal with, but annoying once it happens a few times . You just have to get used to keeping the blower farther away as you move it around your body.

The leaf-moving power of the Toro is immense, but because it comes with only the single wide-end nozzle, you have no way to pinpoint the airflow for clearing out things like stone walls or gutters. It works best with wide, swinging arcs, and for blasting leaves across the yard. But for smaller shifts back and forth, such as under a rose bush, youre fighting the blowers power, and it can get a little tiring.

What Customers Are Saying

Customers praised this models battery life and turbo mode, which maintained a steady stream of power throughout large jobs. Customers who were dissatisfied with this blower often complained about the warranty, which the manufacturer didnt always honor. Select customers also found the size of this blowers battery to be awkward.

EGO Power+ Cordless Leaf Blower

Stihl Bga 200 Leaf Blower

Cordless backpack blowers differ significantly from gas backpack blowers. Rather than moving air from the backpack through the nozzle, they typically maintain the same efficient inline design and simply use a tether to shift the weight of the battery to your back.

With that as the standard, its hard to argue with the Stihl BGA 200 as our top pick. It has the performance to hit one of the highest blower forces weve tested and the runtime of a 42.3Ah backpack power source. Its expensive, though. The whole package including the backpack battery runs north of $1700.

Cons

  • CFM rating is quite low.

Greenworks 40V leaf blower is a nice light-duty unit. It is very lightweight so you can carry it around with ease. The flat nozzle allows the unit to concentrate air where it needs. Greenworks 40V is perfect for getting rid of leaves/debris out of your porch, deck, or driveways.

The engine provides plenty of power. You dont have to pull any rope to start the machine. Battery life will depend on the power setting. No matter what power setting you use, the power is enough for most household tasks.

Ego Power+ Lb6003 600 Cfm Variable

  • May be excessive for small yards

The EGO POWER+ 600 CFM Backpack Blower is a backpack model, so some of its weight is distributed onto your back as you use it. This means two things: First, your arms and wrists are spared from bearing the entire load, and consequently may not grow fatigued as quickly. Second, you shouldnt be super alarmed by its 16.2-pound weight, which is considerably heavier than that of the other models on this list. We appreciated that the backpack felt light and comfortable and that it didnt hinder our mobility as we were using the unit. We also liked the convenience of the adjustable tube. Plus, we found it not too loud while operating and all in all, fun and easy to use.

The unit has an airflow speed of up to 145 MPH, and lets you choose between an airflow capacity of 280 CFM or 600 CFM. This range allows for plenty of flexibility in how you use your leaf blower and means you should be able to reach leaves across a significant distance. We cleared the patch of grass from the dry leaves in 17 seconds and the damp leaves in just over 5 seconds. However, this unit really showed off on the patch of concrete, where it cleared the pile of leaves in just 7 seconds and easily moved the various fishing weights without requiring our tester to be super close to them. However, if you have a smaller yard, the power range may be excessive, and you may find it more conducive to opt for a less powerful model at a lower price point.

Also Great: Worx Wg584 40

*At the time of publishing, the price was $210.

Another cordless option we like is the Worx WG584 40-Volt Power Share Turbine Cordless Leaf Blower. This blower achieves its 40 volts of power through two 20-volt batteries that both attach to the blower. Charging these would be an inconvenience, but the dual port charger is capable of filling both batteries at the same time. The Worx isnt as powerful as the Ryobi or the Ego, but under normal leafy conditions it has no problems moving leaves. It has a very long run time and, at almost 29 minutes, it exceeds the run time of our Ego pick. Also, because the 20-volt batteries are so small, the Worx blower is very, very light. Our measurement put it at a little over 7 pounds, about 3 pounds lighter than the Ryobi and Ego.

A last thing to consider with the Worx is that its 20-volt platform is fairly large and includes a lot of smaller hand tools, like drills and saws. But when it comes to yard tools, the selection is not as complete as Ryobis. There are some interesting items like a robot mower, but for an overall complete package, Ryobi has more to offer.

Greenworks Pro 80v Cordless Backpack Leaf Blower

  • Assembly takes a while

  • Occasionally cumbersome

Backpack models like the Greenworks Pro 80V Cordless Backpack Leaf Blower let you carry a portion of the leaf blower’s weight on your back, reducing the burden placed on your arms and wrists. We thought this model was particularly comfortable to wear. It has an airflow speed of 180 MPH and an airflow capacity of 610 CFM, making it the unit on this list with the largest airflow capacity and speed. Its also the model on this list with the quickest time clocked for clearing the patch of concrete from dry leaves, completing the task in an impressive 6 seconds. It cleared the patch of grass from dry leaves and damp leaves in 25 seconds and 17 seconds, respectively. It also had no problem moving the fishing line weights, and our tester said the ability to lower the power made precision pretty good.”

Can My Cordless Leaf Blower Also Be Used To Clear Snow

Cordless leaf blowers can be used on their highest speed setting to clear light, powdery snow thats less than one inch in thickness. However, they cant be used to clear dense, wet snow because they lack the power. If this is the type of snow your area gets, consider a snow shovel or snow blower instead.
