Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum

Hoover Evolve Cordless Vacuum Review BATTERY UPDATE #2

The famous Dyson comes in at number 3. With a 40 minute battery life the Dyson is a strong contender and has enough juice to clean your home twice .

Dyson’s V8 has a boost mode which drops the battery life down to a tiny 6 minutes. In reality this mode should only be used in tiny bursts, but even so it will take its toll quickly.

What let the Dyson down in our tests was the charge time, which comes in at 5 hours. This may not matter to some, as after use it goes straight back onto the dock to charge anyway, but in such a close race we have to bear it in mind.

Tineco Pure One S12 Pro Ex: Features And Accessories

The Tineco Pure One S12 Pro EX comes with the following accessories:

Direct-drive LED multi-tasker power brush Full-size LED hard floor soft-roller power brush Mini power brush 2 pre-filters Automatic pre-filter cleaning tool

As you can see from this list, there are plenty of attachments to choose from, making this a real multi-tasking vacuum. There are two main floor cleaning tools, the multi-tasker and a more delicate soft brush for hard floors.

To get into tight spots like down the side of the sofa theres a crevice tool, the longer flexible crevice tool with a brush on the end is useful for lots of hard-to-reach areas. As the name suggests, the 2-in-1 dusting brush is perfect for dusting, and when combined with the multi-angle adapter, it can even reach areas you cant see properly, like the top of a bookcase.

The mini power brush is ideal for small rugs, upholstery and stairs. Meanwhile the flexible extension hose can be combined with any attachment for added versatility. All this offers numerous cleaning options, but it is worth considering whether you need and will use all these attachments, because for those who wont, its a bit of a waste and it may be worth looking at the Tineco Pure One S12 which comes with fewer attachments.

Which Cordless Vacuums Come With 2 Battery Packs As Standard

The convenience of cordless vacuums are attracting people to make the switch from corded.

I have recently created an article about how technological advancement provide great solution but also come with caveats. Just like how water filter vacuum cleaners have advantages and disadvantages vs hepa vacuums.

The same is true for cordless vacuum cleaners and their run-times. Batteries can deplete in les than one hour, especially with a high demanding machine such as a vacuum cleaner.

However, technology is advancing and cordless machines can last up to 60mins of run time, which might be sufficient for the average size home.

Quick answer

Most cordless vacuums come with 2 batteries because the average duration is around 1 hour. This way you can use one while the other is getting charged.

Rarely does a budget to mid-priced cordless vacuum meet my high expectations.

Its not surprising, since Ive been testing these products for the past several years, you could call me a cordless vacuum snob.

So when I first got the Simplicity S65S Cordless Mutti-Use, there were doubts that crept into my mind.

But as I tested this product, those doubts slowly dissipated. Dont get me wrong. This product isnt by any means perfect. Theres no one perfect cordless vacuum available.

Each product will have flaws, which well discuss later, along with its strengths.

Best Cordless Vacuum For Carpet

Shark DuoClean Cordless Vacuum Cleaner with Flexology [Twin Battery ...

The Hoover OnePWR HEPA+ vacuum has all the advantages of a trusty bagged vacuum cleaner: large cleaning head, large dust bag capacity, and powerful suction that easily takes on high-pile carpet and rug.

  • Cleaning head size: 13 inches
  • Weight: 10.2 pounds
  • Warranty: 3 years on parts and labor of vacuum

Pros: Powerful, can cover a lot of area, bagged design is more sanitary

Cons: Heavy, can’t reach under low spaces

The Hoover HEPA+ bears the most resemblance to a traditional corded vacuum. The only difference is the cord-free convenience. It’s a powerful all-around performer and cleaned everything from finely ground coffee to grainy cat litter almost perfectly, every single time. And whereas I could tell some of the vacuums struggled on a high-pile rug, the Hoover HEPA+ rolled over the rug smoothly and got deep between the fibers.

The large cleaner head and bag make the vacuum heavy and unable to clean under low spaces. Plus, it’s loud. But since the bag is so big, it’ll take a long time before you have to replace it, and you can throw it away directly without interacting with all the dust and other bits. Hoover also throws in an extra bag for you.

The vacuum’s power switch and two mode buttons are located at the large and ergonomic handle. The vacuum will also stop running if you bring it back to the upright standing position. Like a few of our other top picks, the cleaning head has a built-in light to show your cleaning path.

An Overview Of The Best Cordless Vacuums

Ill split the list into different categories: Best Premium Options, Best Mid-Priced Options, and Best Budget Cordless Vacuums. These lists will have sub-categories, so scroll down to see all the details.

The information below is an overview of the test results, product specifications, and much more.

Please note that the results are an outcome of my tests and shouldnt be considered official, so take it with a grain of salt.

Youll see a list of the products Ive thoroughly tested, so if I omit something that you think should be on there, reach out, and Ill try to test the product.

Also, I didnt include any handhelds in the list, as cordless vacuums should be versatile enough to be used on floors and above to justify their cost.

Does The Simplicity S65 Cordless Multi

Yes! Its superb cleaning performance and fully sealed system make it a compelling option at its price point.

The S65 may not have the bells and whistles of a Dyson or Tineco, but it cleans debris well, which is what matters most.

Sure, there are issues with the lack of tools , but the floor cleaning makes up for it.

Its had one of the best cleaning test scores for both surface and embedded debris, easily one of the best at its price range.

Dustbin Design & Capacity

The S65s dustbin looks like a standard one with a drop door design, but the ease with which you can empty it is above-average.

There are two ways of emptying it. First is using the trap door by pushing the front release latch.

Once you push the lever, the trap door opens like this.

Another way of disposing of dirt is removing the container by twisting it to unlock and detach.

Once the solid arrow lines up with the outlined arrow, remove the container if you need to dispose of large quantities of dirt.

If youre curious about the quantity, it was from this pile of dirt from my other vacuum.

Its a mixture of sand, pet litter, coffee grounds, and other stuff gathered from my other vacuums.

I know its not something youd clean daily, but the S65 was able to handle this mess.

Tineco Pure One S12 Pro Ex: Care And Maintenance

LG CordZero Kompressor Cordless Stick Vacuum with Two Rechargeable Batteries

At 0.13 gallons, the S12 Pro EX doesnt have the largest dustbin capacity, so youll need to empty it frequently. It opens easily with the press of a button, and the dirt falls directly into the trash. During testing we found that if theres a lot of tangled hair inside, dirt can become trapped, and youll need to give it a helping hand to come out.

All the filters are washable and the manual simply advises that you do this periodically. A special cleaning tool is supplied to clean the pre-filter. It utilizes the vacuum motor to perform an automatic one minute clean and because two are supplied, you can keep swapping them over.

The HEPA and the pre-filter will need replacing when suction power is reduced even after theyve been cleaned. The frequency at which these will need replacing will very much depend on how regularly you use the vacuum as well as how dirty your home is.

Replacement filters as well as some replacement parts and tools are available from the Tineco website and theres a warranty thatll cover the vacuum for defects within the first two years.

Introduction To The Best Cordless Vacuums

Cordless vacuums have come a long way since their invention nearly half a century ago.

Gone are the days of worrying if the battery will last for 10 minutes.

Battery technology has improved tremendously, making these products are viable standalone options.

Creativity and innovation is the name of the game with cordless vacuums as manufacturers try to one-up each other with game-changing features.

I use several in my home and am very satisfied with the results.

So well be looking at the best options Ive tested for the past two years.

This is by no means a complete list since Ive not tested them all, and frankly, very few people have.

What Does A Hepa Filter Do

A true HEPA filter traps and removes at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, dirt, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns. According to the EPA, 0.3 microns is the most penetrating particle size, so this specification refers to the worst case. If the particle is larger or smaller than 0.3 microns, it will be trapped with even higher efficiency.

Budget Pick: Black+decker Powerseries Extreme

*At the time of publishing, the price was $179.

If you want to spend as little as possible on a cordless vacuum thats good at cleaning rugs, and youre willing to tolerate an inconvenient design, check out the Black+Decker Powerseries Extreme 20V Max. It comes in two variants: The standard blue version, which we tested, and the pricier Pet version, which is purple and comes with a slightly larger bin and an attachment to suck hair off upholstery but is otherwise the same.

This Black+Decker is a surprisingly adept carpet cleaner for the price. In our tests, it actually sucked up about the same amount of gritty debris as the Dyson V7 , and it beat out many models that cost much more. Were really not sure why it worked so well, because we measured relatively weak suction. It must be something about the cleaning head, which felt like it gripped the floor in a way thats uncommon among cordless vacuumsand totally unique at this price. The downside is that the Black+Decker works just okay on bare floors, where it struggles with debris thats very heavy or very light . But the Black+Decker is also one of the minority of stick vacs that let you shut off the brush roll so that it doesnt scatter hard debris like cat litter. It also has a headlight, which is always helpful for spotting fine debris, though this lamp isnt very bright.

Our Pick: Tineco Pure One S11

Battery operated cordless vacuum cleaner NBV190
$330 to $400 Mini motorized brush, bare-floor cleaning head

Some Tineco sticks outside of the S11 can be good options for the right price. If you can find the top-of-the-line S12 for $350, thats worth it. Its a marginally stronger cleaner than the S11, and its battery life is a little longer . It also has a built-in display with the remaining battery percentage and a few indicators that can help you troubleshoot problems such as a clog or tangle. Like the S11, the S12 comes in a few variants, with different sets of accessories.

Wed skip the base-model A10 and A11 vacuums from Tineco. We tested the A10 a few years ago and found it to be very weak, just not effective on rugs. The A11 is only marginally stronger. Neither model has a dust sensor, either.

Best Midrange Cordless Vacuum

  • Wall mount: Yes
  • Attachments: Mini power brush, crevice tool, dusting tool
  • Warranty: 2 years on parts and labor of vacuum 1 year on parts and labor of accessories and battery

Pros: Really light, quiet, regular cleaning head and attachments all work well with fine pet hairs

Cons: Small dust bin, feels a little cheap, weaker on high-pile carpet and rug

For its price point, the Tineco did an outstanding job of cleaning on all surfaces and was second only to the Dyson V11 Animal at cleaning up pet hair. However, it has the smallest cleaning head and dustbin of our best picks, so you might need to empty it out a few times if you’re cleaning a large house. Yet, the light weight and easy maneuverability more than make up for it.

While you must press down the trigger every time to start the vacuum, there’s a locking mechanism you can use if you don’t want to hold a trigger the whole time.

I knew exactly when I picked up dirt, hair, and other particles because there’s a ring that lights up red when the vacuum is sucking up something and turns blue once the cleaning path is clear again. This vacuum also has a cleaning head light to illuminate your path. It’s generally pretty quiet, but I noticed the wheels squeaked a little from time to time.

This vacuum is technically a “smart” one it pairs with an app to provide cleaning performance information and maintenance reports, but I personally didn’t find it useful and the vacuum itself is enough reason to justify the purchase.

Best Battery Life Cordless Vacuums

Here at Which Vac? we put all sorts of appliances through rigorous testing to ensure they meet manufacturers’ listed figures. But, as well as that, we also aim to bring the facts and recommendations to you, the consumer.

When buying a cordless vacuum one of the key factors to consider is battery life. It’s cordless, after all, so what good is it if the battery doesn’t last long enough?

Our battery tests consist of 3 separate tests to ensure the cordless vacuum batteries are up to scratch. These tests are:

  • Battery life test – how long until it switches off

  • Power longevity test – at what point does suction begin to fail or waver

  • Charge time test – how long to charge from an empty battery

We put our cordless vacuums to the test to see what came up trumps.

Check out our top 3.

How Does The Tineco Pure One S12 Pro Ex Compare To Competitors

Price wise the S12 sits alongside Dysons V15 Detect and there are a fair few similarities. Both have a large LCD screen and both claim to detect dust particles, though the Tineco doesnt feature a laser on the floorhead like the Dyson. Theres an impressive array of tools and accessories provided with both vacuums, but only the Tineco comes with two swappable batteries as well as an accompanying app.

In comparison to the Aspiron Cordless Vacuum the S12 is eye wateringly expensive. And while its price is justified by the aforementioned smart technology, numerous accessories, and great battery life thanks to the dual batteries. If you just want a simple, affordable cordless vacuum for light cleaning duties, the Aspiron might offer what you need while saving you a lot of money.

Or, if you want a good value cordless vacuum, you could do worse than the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins & Powered Lift-Away. Which might not come with as many accessories, but is still a versatile cleaner with a good range of tools. Plus, with most of the weight centered lower down, itll suit some users better than the Tineco.

When Is The Best Time To Buy A Cordless Vacuum

Shark IONFlex DuoClean Cordless Vacuum w/ Accessories on QVC

Cordless vacuums tend to be more expensive than corded ones. The good news is that most brands discount their cordless vacuums around Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday/Cyber Monday Weekend. We typically see discounts of $50 to $200 off Dyson, Hoover, and Shark cordless vacuums. If you’re able to wait, your patience will pay off in considerable savings.

Cordless Vs Corded Vacuums: The Downsides Of Going Cord

Because cordless vacuums use batteries, they are much more expensive and less reliable than plug-ins.

The most common complaint we hear is that new cordless vacuum owners expected better suction or cleaning power for their money. If youre used to a good plug-in vacuum, youll need to reset your expectations. Expect to pay about three times as much for comparable cleaning power: A $30 plug-in stick vacuum should work about as well as a $100 cordless vac, for example, while a great $150 corded upright should clean like an elite $500 battery-powered stick.

You should also expect a cordless vacuum to last about half as long as a comparable plug-in vacuum. Theres a growing body of evidence that a notable percentage of battery packs in vacuums go bad after just a few years, if not sooner. The packs are expensive to replace, and weve found that several brands do not reliably keep spares in stock, so sometimes the lesser of two bad choices is to just replace a vacuum thats only a couple of years old. Plus, sticks are still prone to the same clogs, cracked plastic, and other mechanical failures as plug-in machines. So if you choose a cordless vacuum, you can expect to create more waste and pay extra in the long run.

A $30 plug-in stick vacuum should work about as well as a $100 cordless vac, while a great $150 corded upright should clean like an elite $500 battery-powered stick.
