Iphone 14 Battery Life Test Shows Tremendous Performance For Pro Models
The iPhone 14 series is available in stores, so buyers who havent preordered one can test the handset before deciding which model to purchase. However, brief in-store hands-on experiences will not answer at least one crucial question about the new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max: How good is the battery life compared to last years model?
Well remind you that, before the iPhone 14 launch, the iPhone 13 Pro Max was the undisputed king when it comes to battery life. It set a record last fall and then outperformed the Galaxy S22 Ultra earlier this year. Therefore, the iPhone 14 Pro Max should offer battery life thats at least on par with its predecessor.
Well note that the iPhone 14 Plus has the same battery size as the Pro Max, therefore it could be a great contender in these battery life tests. But the Plus doesnt start shipping until October 7th.
With that in mind, we have a comprehensive iPhone 14 battery life test that compares the new handsets against all the older iPhone models that Apple currently sells.
Iphone 13 Battery Life Vs Iphone 12 And 11
At a high level, Apple says most users will experience:
- 1.5 hours longer battery life on iPhone 13 mini than iPhone 12 mini
- 2.5 hours longer battery life on iPhone 13 than iPhone 12
- 1.5 hours longer battery life on iPhone 13 Pro than iPhone 12 Pro
- 2.5 hours longer battery life on iPhone 13 Pro Max than iPhone 12 Pro Max
But keep reading below for more detailed battery life specs.
Looking more closely, iPhone 13 may offer even better battery performance than that. Here is iPhone 13, 12, and 11 battery life compared byvideo playback and audio playback based on Apples tech specs.
Notably, iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 Pro can see up to 28 hours and 22 hours for video playback, respectively, giving quite a boost compared to the 12 Pro Max and 12 Pro.
All battery estimates from Apple below feature the up toqualifier on all of its specs pages.

Iphone 13 Pro Design And Specs
Last year was a big design update for the iPhone, with flat sides, 5G, and MagSafe charging. This years models inherit all of that, changing the design in only minor ways. The most obvious one is the notch on the screen. Its slightly smaller, but only horizontally it still pushes down into what youre looking at to the same degree. Apple also didnt do anything with that extra space at the top, meaning you still cant see your battery percentage without pulling down the control center.
The other design change is that the new iPhones are almost imperceptibly heavier and also thicker across the entire body compared to last years models. But the camera bumps on both phones are significantly bigger, which means that 12 Pro cases are not going to fit on the 13 Pro. I think the tradeoffs are worth it for the improved battery life and camera system.
The design is virtually identical to the iPhone 12 Pro models
The smaller notch on the iPhone 13 Pro Max compared to the 12 Pro Max
Unlike many Android phones with gently curving displays at the edges, Apple does still have a small bezel around the screen. The rails on the edges are glossy stainless steel that pick up fingerprints, the glass on the back is a smooth matte. The front uses Apples Ceramic Shield finish to prevent cracks, and the camera lenses are sapphire. Its a beautiful phone, and I think its a huge step up from the curved sides weve seen on iPhones from the 6 all the way up through the 11.

What’s The Iphone 14 Pro’s Battery Life
According to the Laptop Mag battery test, which involves the phone web surfing at 150 nits on a mobile network, the iPhone 14 Pro lasted 10 hours and 22 minutes on a T-Mobile eSIM. This runtime is the average of three results we recorded for the iPhone 14 Pro.
A 10-hour runtime isn’t half bad it should last you a whole work day. However, the iPhone 14 Pro failed to outpace its predecessor: the iPhone 13 Pro. The last-gen model managed to last an extra two hours, delivering a jaw-dropping runtime of 12 hours.
It’s no surprise that the iPhone 14 Pro delivered a shorter battery runtime compared to the iPhone 13 Pro. After all, at the Sept. 7 “Far Out” event, Apple made a big to-do about the iPhone 14 Plus having the “best battery life ever” in an iPhone, which insinuated that the iPhone 14 Pro models don’t have generation-over-generation runtime leap that many are expecting.
When it comes to charging the iPhone 14 Pro, you have three options: 7.5W Qi, 15W MagSafe and 20W wired charging. Testing the latter, the iPhone 14 Pro climbed to 21% in 15 minutes and 42% in 30 minutes. This is slightly slower than the iPhone 13 Pro, which skyrocketed to 25% in 15 minutes and 53% in 30 minutes.

How Long Does Iphone 13 Pro Battery Life Last Max Battery Life
At the time of its Special Event, Apple has already confirmed that the iPhone 13 Pro will have 1.5 hours of battery life more than its predecessor. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, on the other hand, will have a battery power of 2.5 hours more in comparison to the Pro Max 12.
So, if you are looking to buy an iPhone 13 Pro, check out the data given below to find out how much does it last while playing audio or video on the phone, etc.
It is worth mentioning that the iPhone 13 Pro is powered by an 11.97-watt-hour battery, compared to 10.78 watt-hours for its iPhone 12 Pro predecessor.
To make sure high-end battery life on its iPhone 13 Pro, Apple also didnt just include bigger batteries. The smartphone is also relying on the new chipset of A15 Bionic SoC which is engraved in 5nm+.
Finally, Apple has also integrated a 120 Hz ProMotion screen on the iPhone 13 Pro. Because of its integration, the iPhone 13 Pro screens go from 10 Hz to 120 Hz as needed in order to reduce the pressure on the battery.
That is all you need to know about how long iPhone 13 Pro battery power lasts. Additionally, you can also check out what is the battery life of iPhone 13 Mini, or follow our iPhone 13 Guides compilation to find out all about the new Apple devices.

Tips To Extend The Iphone 13’s Battery Life
In the event the iPhone 13’s battery runs out faster than expected, there are a few ways users can extend the battery life. The easiest way is to enable the Low Power Mode. To do this, open Settings, go to Battery, and toggle on Low Power Mode. For a quicker option, add Low Power Mode to Control Center. To do this, go to Settings, tap Control Center, and then hit Customize Controls. Select Low Power Mode and add it to the list. Once the mode is enabled, the iPhone should last much longer even when there’s less than 20 percent battery remaining. It’s important to note that Low Power Mode will disable some activities, such as automatic downloads and email fetch. On the iPhone 13 Pro models, the display refresh rate will be limited to 60Hz. All key functions, however, will still continue to be available.
To extend an iPhone’s battery life without enabling Low Power Mode, users can dim their screen brightness or enable Auto Brightness. Using Wi-Fi instead of cellular data when available is also helpful. Users can also choose to turn off background activity for apps by going to Settings, tapping General, and then Background App Refresh. Turning off location services for apps that don’t need access can also extend battery. Finally, users can turn off app notifications for apps that send frequent push notifications to stop the screen from waking constantly. To do this, open Notifications in the Settings app and turn off Allow Notifications for specific apps.
Solution #: Restore Factory Defaults
Performing a factory reset can be deemed among the last resorts if the battery draining issue continues after applying all prior solutions.
This reset will likely fix the problem if fatal system errors affecting the iOS battery system are to blame. However, creating a backup beforehand is highly recommended. Failure to do so will result in permanent data loss because this reset will wipe everything from your iPhone system. As a result, your iPhone will return to its factory state.
Should you wish to proceed, back up all important files from your iPhone to iCloud or iTunes and then do the factory reset via settings with these steps:
- Go to your Home screen and then open the Settings app.
- Scroll to and tap General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone to proceed.
- Tap Reset and then select Erase all Content and Settings option.
- If prompted, confirm that youd like to erase your device.
- Wait for the phone to finish resetting and then restore all default values and options.
After the reset, you can set up your iPhone as new.
Alternatively, you can use iTunes to restore your iPhone 13 to its factory state or from a previous iOS backup on your computer.

Which Should You Buy
In every other respectCPU, design, charging performance, 5Gthe iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro are the same. Focusing on the differences has a way of really making the iPhone 13 Pro seem a lot better, but you should consider whether you really care about those features or not. If most of the features dont seem like the sort of things you care deeply about, youre just throwing away up to $200 for no good reason.
The difference in battery life, GPU performance, and the experience of the 120Hz ProMotion display are key to the iPhone 13 Pro value proposition. This years Pro upgrade is one of the best upgrades in years, both over last years iPhone 12 and the entry-level iPhone 13. A $200 difference isnt small, but the iPhone 13 Pro is worth the extra cost if the camera and display really matter to you, especially if you hold on to your iPhone for several years. We recommend paying a little more now to be a lot happier later.
Iphone 13 Pro Display
- 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display
- Adaptive 120Hz refresh rate
- 20% smaller notch compared to predecessor
Like the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. This screen doesnt feature the best pixels-per-inch rating of the entire iPhone 13 range for that, look at the iPhone 13 mini but it does feature 460ppi, and the image quality is correspondingly crisp.
A significant upgrade here is the introduction of a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, which means the on-screen image refreshes 120 times a second for a more fluid experience than weve seen on previous iPhones its most noticeable when youre scrolling through menus or system apps.
Its a dynamic refresh rate, so its automatically adjusted depending on which apps youre using for example, most games will use a 120Hz refresh rate, while if youre reading an ebook the rate could drop as low as 1Hz. The idea here is to save battery life when youre using apps that dont benefit from the high refresh rate.
Weve found the screen tech works well, although its availability is limited right now, as a lot of apps arent optimized for 120Hz. Including this feature is something developers have access to, and we expect to see native support crop up in more software as time goes on.

Is Your Iphone Battery Still Draining So Fast
Adjusting some settings can also help preserve battery life on your device. Among the settings that you should consider adjusting are the following:
1. Background App Refresh. Turning this feature off allows apps to automatically refresh contents when connected to the internet and this is going to be a background process. The more apps are refreshing contents, the more power will be consumed.
This therefore results in your iPhone battery draining faster than usual. That said, turning Background app refresh on your iPhone 13 may help preserve battery life.
2. Screen brightness. Lower the screen brightness can also help slow down battery consumption and extends battery life. The brighter the screen, the more power it consumes so better keep it in a tolerable lower level.
3. Wallpaper selection. The use of animated or moving wallpapers is also one factor that can cause your iPhone battery to drain faster. Thus, setting a still wallpaper is recommended.
4. Automatic app downloads and updates. Turning off automatic apps and downloads can also help as it prevents your device from constantly connecting to various servers to check for new updates available for download. As a result, your iPhones battery life is preserved.
Iphone 14 Pro Max Vs Iphone 14 Pro Vs Iphone 14 Battery Life Test
YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss performed a battery life test that involved all these models. Last year, he completed a similar test for all the iPhones in Apples fall 2021 lineup. Its those tests that highlighted the impressive battery performance of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Thats why his iPhone 14 battery life test is relevant for the state of the iPhone market. It uses the same principles, which makes it as objective as possible. All the iPhones are brand new, so battery health is at 100% across the board. They run the same suite of apps and games in the same order.
Therefore, each iPhone has to go through the same tasks. Some are more intensive, requiring more energy, while others are simpler.
Also, all iPhones have the same settings. They have the same screen brightness and sound volume. And all of them have the same connectivity options turned on.
With that in mind, here are the results of this iPhone 14 battery life test comparison. Again, the Plus wasnt part of the comparison, but the YouTuber estimated battery life for the unreleased 6.7-inch device based on the performance of the other phones:

Leaked Apple Iphone 14 Battery Capacities Raise Some Eyebrows But Iphone 14 Pro Max Battery Life Should Still Be Stellar
A known leaker has got hold of what are supposedly the battery capacities for each of the Apple iPhone 14 models. According to a tweet by ShrimpApplePro , the iPhone 14 will receive a 3,279-mAh battery while the iPhone 14 Max gets a 4,325-mAh cell. A 3,200-mAh unit is apparently headed to the iPhone 14 Pro while the iPhone 14 Pro Max has to settle for a battery with a 4,323-mAh capacity. Not only is that latter figure slightly lower than the iPhone 14 Maxs battery, it is also lower than the 4,352-mAh battery found in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Obviously, apart from the fact that the data might be fake, the details have raised some eyebrows among followers and commenters, wondering why Apple would even consider fitting the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a lower-capacity battery. However, with some deeper digging not only is there precedent for such a move, but it also makes sense when considering iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 13 Pro battery life performance and the rumored upgrades coming to the iPhone 14 series. Starting with precedence, the iPhone 12 actually had a lower-capacity battery inside it than the previous-generation iPhone 11 and yet Apple claims both offer up to 17 hours of video playback despite the capacity differences. The iPhone 12 Pro Max also had a smaller battery capacity than the iPhone 11 Pro Max .
Does 5g Drain Battery Iphone 13
Does 5g Drain Battery Iphone 13?
There is some speculation that 5G radiation might be harmful to the human body and can even drain the battery on an iPhone 13. However, there is no scientific evidence that suggests this is actually the case.
In fact, a study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology found that even the highest levels of 5G radiation exposure do not have a significant impact on the battery life of smartphones. The study found that even when 5G radiation exposure increased 10,000 times, the battery life of smartphones did not change significantly.
So, while 5G radiation might not be the best thing for your battery, it does not seem to be the cause of battery drainage on the iPhone 13.

Lets Talk About 5g Again
For the second year in a row the iPhone features 5G and both of the Pro models, like the non-Pro ones, feature the two core standards in the United States: Sub-6 and mmWave. And like we said last year, 5G at least the one we all want is pretty hard to find. And that goes for most carriers .
So lets break down the types of 5G youll see on the 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max. 5G in the top right corner means youre connected to a likely nationwide Sub-6 network from a carrier. This is standard 5G in a low-band capacity, which is easier to roll out. But it also doesnt deliver on the wild speeds weve been promised. Speeds will be in line with 4G LTE at 200 to 300 Mbps, but the affordance is more bandwidth on a given network.
5G UW is likely the 5G you want, but it can be trickier to find. Its the ultrawide-band mmWave 5G that delivers super-fast speeds, but you need to be in direct line of sight with a cell tower at least, thats what we needed in testing this year and with the iPhone 12 Pro last year. Its a harder network to roll out, and no carrier offers it truly everywhere. In our testing, a building blocking the phone to the tower or walking further down the street resulted in the connection being dropped.
