Google Pixel 6 Pro Vs Galaxy S21 Ultra: Verdict

Google Pixel 6 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max vs. Galaxy S21 Ultra Battery Test

This is one of the closest phone face-offs we’ve ever seen, as the Google Pixel 6 Pro wins this contest by a single point. The Pixel 6 Pro gives you a colorful and responsive 120Hz display, strong performance from its Tensor chip and plenty of AI smarts. But the biggest victory comes in the price and value round, and its cameras delivered better image quality in our side-by-side camera testing.

Google Pixel 6 Pro

Pixel 6 Vs Pixel 6 Pro: Cameras

Both phones share the same primary camera, a 50MP Octa PD Quad Bayer with an f/1.85 aperture and 1.2µm pixel width. This new sensor is 1/1.31, making it one of the largest in any smartphone on the market.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also share the same secondary ultra-wide sensor which actually drops from 16MP to 12MP but has a larger 1.25µm pixel width, the same f/2.2 aperture, and a wider 114-degree field of view.

Other similarities include laser detect autofocus, optical and electronic image stabilization, a spectral and flicker sensor , Googles Fast camera launcher, and some fun software tools, like Magic Eraser.

There is one major difference with the rear camera. The Pixel 6 Pro adds a third telephoto lens, a 48MP snapper with an f/3.5 aperture, 0.8µm pixel width and a half-inch image sensor size. Google claims it can deliver Super Res Zoom at up to 20x so if you find yourself needing more reach when you take shots, the Pixel 6 Pro might be the right choice.

The front cameras are also different. The Pixel 6 offers an 8MP selfie cam with a superior aperture at f/2.0 but the Pixel 6 Pro has a sharper 11MP, f/2.2 lens with a larger pixel size at 1.22µm versus 1.12µm. Perhaps most importantly, the Pixel 6 Pro’s front-facing camera has a wider field of view of 94 degrees compared to 84 degrees.

As for video quality, the specs for both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are identical with a fairly typical 4K at 30 frames per second or 60 fps and 1080p at 30 fps or 60 fps.

Pixel 6 Vs Pixel 6 Pro: Display

There are a few key differences when comparing the displays on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The most obvious is the size the Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch screen whereas the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch panel. It really is a matter of wanting a large screen or an extra-large one.

On paper, these both sound like gorgeous displays. Look closely and you’ll see one significant advantage for the Pixel 6 Pro. But first, let’s look at the specs.

The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch, FHD+ resolution OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Turning to the Pixel 6 Pro, its 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display has a higher QHD+ resolution and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. With a higher refresh rate, the Pixel 6 Pro should benefit from smoother animations.

Not only that, but the Pixel 6 Pro supports a dynamic refresh rate, meaning the panel can adjust from 10Hz up to 120Hz based on the content you’re viewing. Watching a video or playing a game? Then the display will jump up to 120Hz. Scrolling slowly down a webpage? Dropping the screen to 10Hz will improve battery life.

Without this adaptive refresh rate feature, the Pixel 6 may struggle on our battery life tests as it is locked to either 60Hz or 90Hz. Even if it doesn’t, the 120Hz refresh rate on the Pixel 6 Pro means fast on-screen movements should look smoother on the larger device, though I doubt most people would notice much of a difference unless they compare these side-by-side.

Googles Tensor Processor Is A Leap Forward

The Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 are the first phones with Google Tensor silicon. The SoC was designed with heterogeneous computing in mind, meaning its processors, coprocessors, instruction sets, and other software all work holistically to complete tasks quickly and efficiently.

The Tensor SoC is an octa-core processor with a 5nm process. The CPU consists of a pair of 2.8GHz Cortex-X1 cores for the most demanding tasks, two 2.25GHz Cortex-A76 high-performance cores, and four power-efficient 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores for everyday applications.

The Pixel 6 Pro has a crisp 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display

In addition to the CPU, theres a 20-core ARM Mali GPU for gaming and computational photography, as well as a 50MP ISP with zero shutter lag and Googles HDRnet. A separate Context Hub coprocessor sits on the SoC for things like contextual reminders and the always-on display.

Googles collection of security coprocessors also appear here. The Tensor security core is a CPU subsystem that handles sensitive tasks in an isolated environment. It works in concert with the Titan M2 chip and handles passcode protection, encryption, and sensitive data shared online.

Dont expect the Tensor processor to ace every benchmarkit wont. Most smartphone benchmarks are poor indicators of everyday performance anyway, and some manufacturers capitalize on the public thirst for high scores by optimizing their chips and software specifically for benchmarks.

Pixel 6 Pro Review: Cameras

Now weve come to the thing that defines a Pixel: the cameras. Google pioneered what was possible with computational photography and although other phone makers have since caught up, Pixels regularly feature on our list of the best camera phones. This year, the Pixel 6 Pro ups the ante.

Google upgraded the hardware to complement the improved software algorithms and Tensor strengths. The main sensor is now 50MP, letting in 150% more light according to Google. The 12MP ultrawide camera has a 114-degree field of view and the 48MP telephoto sports a 4x optical zoom thanks to its folded optics. Overall, the Pixel 6 Pro can go up to a 20x digital zoom, with the AI-powered Super Res Zoom to help clean up the final images.

Among the new AI features powered by the Tensor chip, the highlight is Magic Eraser. This is an incredible feat of engineering, letting you effectively remove unwanted items from the background of your photos. It’s obviously not perfect, but the Pixel 6 Pro will automatically suggest things to remove. Google says it works best on beaches and at parks.

Without further ado, heres how the Pixel 6 Pro stacks up to the likes of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, the current king of our best camera phones list.

Similarly, heres Long Exposure on and off. Its a pretty cool and artistic effect, as you can see in this photo of a running fountain.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Gaming And Performance

Under the hood, the Pixel 6 Pro rocks Googles first-ever self-made Tensor chip, rather than one of the Qualcomm chips thats powered almost every Android device until now. After almost a week of usage, the handset seems just as capable, if not faster than, any top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone Ive used this year.

Just like on those phones, apps launch almost instantly and the whole interface feels snappy in general, from opening menus to switching between apps. Thankfully, the 12GB LPDDR5 RAM makes the Pixel 6 Pro a lot better about keeping apps cached in memory, so you rarely have to wait for apps to relaunch themselves completely.

You can also choose between a healthy 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage when you buy a Pixel 6 Pro. Theres no 1TB option like you can get on the iPhone 13 Pro, but seeing as Google or Android phones in general doesnt have a ProRes or ProRAW-equivalent video format, you should never need that much storage. Just make sure to buy a phone with all the storage you need as its not expandable.

Another of the Tensor chips useful everyday features is that it knows which apps you use most and avoids wasting power on ones you never use. Its hard to tell how this feature really works, but the Pixel 6 Pro is much better about managing its battery life than the iPhone 13 Pro something Ill get more into later.

New Cameras New Possibilities

Google Pixel 6 vs 6 Pro | Gaming, Camera, Battery – Tested!

The Pixel 6 Pro’s combination of new sensors, lenses, software tweaks, and Tensor processor keep Google firmly planted at the top of the smartphone camera game.

The rear camera bar has three sensors. The primary camera clocks in at 50MP with an f/1.85 aperture, 1.2m pixel width, and large 1/1.31-inch sensor format. It uses an Octa PD Quad Bayer method with all-pixel autofocus for crisp 12.5MP shots.

The primary and ultra-wide lenses capture solid image in any light. Our daylight test photos have crisp foregrounds and excellent depth of field. We noticed some loss of fine detail in photos with direct light and, overall, the metering system leans toward slight underexposure.

A 12MP ultra-wide sensor with a 1.25m pixel width and f/2.2 aperture sits next to it. The lens has a 114-degree field of view. The lens elements minimize the distortion thats common with small-format ultra-wide sensors.

A 48MP telephoto camera rounds out the camera stack. It has a 23.5-degree field of view and half-inch sensor size. The angle of view is tighter than the main lens, effectively a 4x optical zoom, and works in conjunction with the primary camera for 20x Super Res Zoom.

At 20x zoom, Google’s computational tweaks kicked into overload, creating overly mosaic photosThe Pixel 6 Pro does well in very little light, but you’ll notice some lens flareThe Pixel 6 Pro captures fine detail better than any other Android phoneThe 11.1MP selfie camera takes excellent shots in any lighting scenario

What Is The Pixel 6 Pro

Compared to the Pixel 6, the Pixel 6 Pro has a unique design, good battery life, and good feature-rich software that makes it stand out. It also comes with machine learning powers and its processor known as a Google Tensor, an advanced on-device artificial intelligence.

Youll find the Pixel 6 Pro appealing if you are into big phones. One thing youll appreciate is this phones large screen that you can use to read emails or scroll through social media. Since Google has kept most features at the absolute minimum, the user-facing camera is but a small punch hole centered at the top.

The Google Pixel 6 Pro has a large display screen of 6.7 inches.

Google Pixel 6 Pro Vs Galaxy S21 Ultra: Special Features

The Google Pixel 6 Pro offers a wide range of special features, thanks to its Tensor chip. In the camera, youll find a handy Magic Eraser feature that can take photo bombers and other unwanted objects out of your pics. And we like the new Action mode, which lets you take action pans that blur out the background as well as artful looking long exposures.

The Pixel 6 Pro also benefits from major Google Assistant upgrades. For example, you can now voice type emojis and perform various commands using just your voice . Google Assistant can also tell you how long your wait is going to be when you dial a toll-free number and even hold on the line for you, as well as translate foreign language signs in real time.

The Galaxy S21 Ultras top special feature is its S Pen support. If youre willing to pay extra for a stylus, you can take notes on the display, draw and more. However, there’s nowhere to put the S Pen, so you’ll want to invest in a Galaxy S21 Ultra case with a holster built in.

Samsung’s big-screen has lots of handy camera features as well. The Single Take 2.0 feature on the S21 Ultra takes a bunch of stills and photos at once for easy sharing, and there’s Director’s view for shooting video using the front and back cameras at the same time. In addition, the S21 Ultra captures 8K video, while the Pixel 6 Pro is limited to 4K.

Pixel 6 Vs Pixel 6 Pro: The Screen And The Body

Google Pixel 6 price in Pakistan

We’ll start with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro displays and overall sizes, because that’s where you might be the most surprised by some of these devices’ real-world differences. First things first, the Pro’s display is indeed noticeably larger than the regular Pixel 6’s, though not by any sort of massive, experience-changing margin. It’s also more pixel-dense, but we’re talking a level of difference that no one without Superman-level vision would possibly notice.

I’ll take that same thinking a step further: In general, I don’t think any normal person would give any of the quality-related differences between the devices’ displays an ounce of thought. Even when looking at the two phones side by side, I suspect most folks would say, “Okay. The Pro’s screen is a little bit bigger. Cool?”

Does size matter? The larger Pixel 6 Pro, at left, and the regular Pixel 6, at right.

The same holds true for those attention-demanding refresh rates. The Pixel 6 Pro’s 120Hz figure may sound impressive on paper, but you’re almost certainly not gonna notice the difference between that and the Pixel 6’s 90Hz refresh rate in real-world use.

JR

Paradoxically, you end up seeing more text on-screen at the same time with the regular Pixel 6, at left, than you do with the Pixel 6 Pro, at right.
