Honeywell Thermostat 5000 Series And 6000 Series

Honeywell Pro Series Thermostat Battery Replacement (BATT)

The 5000 and 6000 series of Honeywell thermostats are very similar, so the battery-changing process is the same for both of them. However, once again, the latter is programmable. Here is a straightforward way to take out the old batteries from the thermostat and put in new ones:

  • You will find a battery holder along the right side of your thermostat.
  • Find a release catch along the top of your thermostat unit.
  • Try pressing it down and removing the holder.
  • Once you are successful, take out old batteries from the device and put in the new ones.
  • Then, refit the holder back onto the unit.

You will find a Replace Battery warning flashing very visibly on their displays in these thermostats. Once this warning comes up, you have exactly two months before the batteries will completely dry out.

Factory Reset The Thermostat

Factory resetting is a great way for you to fix any persistent problem with your thermostat.

Be warned, though, following through with a Factory reset will take your thermostat back to the default factory settings.

I will give you a general guide on the steps needed to be taken to factory reset any Honeywell thermostat. Later on, I will talk you through each specific model.

To reset your thermostat, follow these steps:

  • Ensure that your thermostat is turned off
  • Open the door of the battery compartment. Insert a coin or something similar into the slot or by pushing it in and then sliding out the compartment door
  • Now take out the batteries
  • Put the batteries back on in reverse to the indicated polarity by the markings in the battery holder
  • Allow the batteries to stay this way for about five seconds
  • Next, take out the batteries and reinsert them in the correct alignment
  • The display may now light up, which means it has become working once again
  • How To Tell If Your Thermostat Needs A New Battery

Honeywells thermostats will have some kind of indicator on the control panel that will let you know what a new battery is required.

A warning should come up on the control panel screen. Something such as low batt should show when its time to replace the batteries.

However, not all models will do this. Some models will flash, showing an icon that looks like a snowflake.

Honeywell thermostats that have control panels or screens will require batteries to work and power those parts.

Every single thermostat model with these features will have a way of telling you when the batteries are running low.

This specific thermostat brand typically only requires a battery change annually.

Battery changes once a year is enough for these devices to function well.

Since these systems only need a battery change once a year, it is a good indication that it doesnt use batteries quickly at all.

At the time when the low battery sign comes on, there are generally still two months of use left.

After those two months, the control panel is likely to stop working since the battery will die.

A few Honeywell thermostat systems also have a final warning feature.

This will kick off when the batteries lose too much power and are on the verge of dying.

When this happens, the screen will not turn on until you install new, fresh batteries.

After this, you wont get any other indications that the devices batteries are low.

How Do You Take The Cover Off A Honeywell Thermostat

If you believe low or dead batteries are the problem, youll want to replace them. The first thing is to take off the battery cover. There are two types of Honeywell thermostats: programmable and non-programmable. Well discuss the programmable type first, as those are the slightly trickier ones.

A programmable Honeywell thermostat has LED temperature readouts and a touchpad to set and control the temperature. If this sounds like your thermostat, first pull the lower right corner of the thermostat to loosen it. Then you can separate the cover from the body of the thermostat, which remains attached to the wall.

If you have a round, non-programmable Honeywell thermostat, you can remove the cover by hooking your finger underneath the outer plastic ring and pulling it towards you.

What about the decorative cover plate? If your thermostat has one of these, there are a couple more steps involved. First, turn off the electricity to your thermostat. Next, use the tips mentioned above to remove the outside cover. Next, use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws on either side of the thermostats body. Pull the thermostat away from the wall, then unscrew the screws at the top and bottom of the cover plate to remove it from the wall.

When Should The Honeywell Thermostat Battery Be Replaced

Awasome How To Change Battery On Honeywell Touchscreen Thermostat Ideas

A Honeywell thermostats battery should be replaced once a year, and you will receive warning 60 days before the battery expires. As a result, you have ample time to change the batteries, but there is a catch!

The thermostat features an LED panel that displays Low Batt or Replace the battery. This is the first notification you receive, which is likely 60 days before your battery dies. However, another warning is the black screen, which causes your thermostat to cease operating.

You may have a thermostat that merely utilizes a battery as a backup, and you may not be concerned about updating the thermostats batteries.

But believe me, even if your thermostat uses a battery for the backup process but you still need to replace the battery as this might cause certain changes in the Time and Date settings of the Honeywell thermostat.

    Batteries Not Included

If you dont know which kind of batteries your thermostat requires, youll soon find out.

Its a good idea to change the thermostat battery each year on a scheduled date. The first day of fall season is a good choice. How Do I Get My Honeywell Thermostat To Work After Changing The Battery

Suppose the thermostat is not working after replacing the batteries. In that case, the batteries are in the wrong orientation, the faceplate may be incorrectly seated, the batteries may be faulty, or the system may require a reset.

The first thing to check if the thermostat system is not turning on after a battery change is if the control panel faceplate or the battery compartment lid or tray has been reinstalled correctly. If the pins in the control panel are not making proper contact with the baseplate, the control panel will not turn on.

Check the control panel to make sure that it is seated securely. If not, carefully remove the panel as not to damage any connections, and replace it securely onto the base plate.

If this does not solve the problem, follow the steps to access the thermostat battery compartment. Inspect the batteries to ensure they are installed in the correct orientation according to the diagram on the thermostat.

If the batteries are not installed with the correct polarity orientation, the thermostat will not function. If the batteries are installed incorrectly, rectifying this should solve the problem.

If the problem persists, place the batteries into another device to check that they are discharging properly.

If all is well with the batteries and the control panel, the system may need to reset. Since the control panel is not working, you must reset the system by turning off the electrical supply at the circuit breaker.
